It’s Week 5 of the 2025 high school football season, and district play is creeping closer for Highland Lakes teams. Marble Falls, Burnet, and Llano hit the road Friday, Sept. 26, while Faith Academy of Marble Falls stays home.

Here are the matchups:

Marble Falls Mustangs vs. La Vernia Bears

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Bear Stadium, 221 San Antonio Road in La Vernia

LISTEN/WATCH: Listen to the contest on KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune or at KBEYFM.com starting with a 7 p.m. pregame show. Watch a livestream of the game at DailyTrib.com.

LAST WEEK: Marble Falls 59, Brackenridge 0

The Mustangs (2-2) are riding high into their game against La Vernia (3-1) after a 59-0 win over the Brackenridge Eagles (1-3) in Week 4.

“I think any win is big, even if you know you should handle a team or you know it’s going to be close,” Marble Falls head coach Keri Timmerman told KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune’s Ben Shields in an interview. “Pulling out a win is hard on any given night in Texas.”

Timmerman said La Vernia could be a tough team this year. The Bears made it to the state semifinals in 2024. When the two squads faced off last season, La Vernia won 34-14.

Timmerman noted his team has been preparing for the Bears’ run-heavy offense.

“They throw it enough to keep you honest, but they want to run the ball,” he said. “It will be a great test for us.”

Marble Falls has two more games before District 4-4A play begins Oct. 10, when the Mustangs face Burnet.

Burnet Bulldogs vs. Gatesville Hornets

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday

WHERE: McKamie Stadium, 205 S. Lovers Lane in Gatesville

PREVIEW: Tune in to KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune at 9 a.m. Wednesdays throughout the season for “In the Bulldogs Huddle” with head coach Ben Speer, who joins host Ben Shields for a chat about everything Burnet football.

LAST WEEK: Fredericksburg 14, Bulldogs 10

The Bulldogs (1-3) battle the undefeated Gatesville Hornets (4-0) after a tough loss to Fredericksburg (1-3) in Week 4.

“(The Fredericksburg game) was a battle,” head coach Ben Speer told KBEY’s Ben Shields. “They’re a lot better than their (at-the-time) 0-3 record shows.”

The defense-dominated contest saw both teams struggle to put points on the board.

“We moved the ball and put up some yards, but we just couldn’t cash in,” Speer said.

Burnet now focuses on the road game at Gatesville, hoping to spoil the Hornets’ homecoming.

“This is one of those opportunities where we might be able to sneak up in there and get one,” Speer said.

The Bulldogs beat the Hornets 23-17 in 2024.

Burnet has two more games before District 4-4A play begins Oct. 10, when the Bulldogs face Marble Falls.

Faith Academy Flames vs. Giddings Lonestar Southeast Mustangs

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Faith Academy, 3151 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls

LAST WEEK: Faith Academy 56, Nueces Canyon 6

The Flames (3-1) take on the Giddings Lonestar Southeast Mustangs (0-2) at home Friday night. Faith Academy was on fire last week, burning the Nueces Canyon Panthers (1-3) in a 56-6 victory.

Faith and Giddings did not play each other in the 2024 season.

The Flames have a few more games before their TAPPS Six-Man Division II District 4 season begins Oct. 24 against San Marcos Academy.

Llano Yellowjackets vs. Comfort Bobcats

KICKOFF: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Bobcat Stadium, 41 Karger Lane in Comfort

LAST WEEK: Jarrell 40, Llano 29

The Yellowjackets (3-1) face the Comfort Bobcats (4-0) on the road after suffering their first defeat of the season to Jarrell (4-0) in Week 4.

The Yellowjackets beat the Bobcats 35-26 in 2024.

Llano is warming up for District 13-3A play, which starts Oct. 3 against Florence at home.
