A barricaded standoff with law enforcement Sept. 11 in Kingsland ended with the arrest of a man on an assault charge for allegedly strangling a woman earlier in the day.

According to the Llano County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call at around 10 a.m. Thursday reported that a man was attempting to break into a vehicle with a woman inside at a home in the 1000 block of Willow Drive.

The man fled the scene before LCSO deputies arrived. The woman involved identified him as 33-year-old Jesse Daniel Savage and told officers he had assaulted and strangled her.

Deputies began a search for Savage and discovered he had returned to the Willow Drive home and barricaded himself inside.

Law enforcement, including Texas Highway Patrol officers and LCSO crisis negotiators, surrounded the residence. After a prolonged standoff and attempts to get Savage to surrender peacefully, law enforcement chose to take him by force. A non-lethal pepperball was launched into the home, allowing officers to enter safely and take Savage into custody, according to the LCSO.

Savage is charged with assault-family violence (impeding breath or circulation), a third-degree felony in Texas that comes with two to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines with a conviction. As of Thursday, he was being held in the Llano County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND

Savage was on parole at the time of his Sept. 11 arrest, which also happens to be his birthday. While his Burnet County Jail records list a Goldthwaite address, he has an extensive Highland Lakes criminal record dating to at least 2013.

Savage was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest in 2022, criminal mischief in 2018, possession of a controlled substance in 2016, and the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance in 2013. He has violated his parole several times since 2020.

He was also arrested, but not convicted, on several occasions in Burnet County for charges of sexual assault in 2013, assault causing bodily injury in 2022, and assault causing bodily injury to a family member in 2024.
