It’s Week 3 of the 2025 high school football season, and an old rivalry between Marble Falls and Llano hits the field at Mustang Stadium for the first time in over 20 years. Also, Burnet hopes to step up on homecoming, and Faith Academy aims to continue its win streak.

Marble Falls Mustangs vs. Llano Yellowjackets

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

WHERE: Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive in Marble Falls

LISTEN/WATCH: Listen to the contest on KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune or at KBEYFM.COM starting with a 7 p.m. pregame show. You can also watch a livestream of the game at DailyTrib.com.

LAST WEEK: Jarrell 41, Marble Falls 7

The Mustangs (1-1) face off against the Yellowjackets (2-0) on Friday night, continuing a rivalry that hasn’t seen Mustang Stadium in over 20 years.

The Marble Falls squad struggled offensively in a 41-7 homecoming loss to Jarrell on Sept. 5.

“Credit to Jarrell; they are a physical football team,” head coach Kerri Timmerman told KBEY 103.9 FM’s Ben Shields in an interview. “We came out a little wide-eyed. I think we learned a lot from it.”

Marble Falls is home again this week to play Llano, and Timmerman said his team is ready for the challenge. Llano won last year’s preseason contest 20-13 before dominating its district and going deep into the playoffs. The Yellowjackets look to be strong again this year, beating Comanche last week 62-23 and opening with a 55-14 win over Lytle.

“I’m excited to toe-up against a good football team,” Timmerman told KBEY. “Let’s throw some punches and see what we’ve got.”

Burnet Bulldogs vs. Little River Academy Bumblebees

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

WHERE: Bulldog Stadium, 1401 Main St. in Burnet

PREVIEW: Tune in to KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune at 9 a.m. Wednesdays throughout the season for “In the Bulldogs Huddle” with head coach Ben Speer, who joins host Ben Shields for a chat about everything Burnet football.

LAST WEEK: East View 42, Burnet 28

The Bulldogs (0-2), who are hungry for their first win of the season, take on the Little River Academy Bumblebees (0-2) for homecoming on Friday night.

Burnet had a hard fight last week against the East View Patriots (1-1), falling 42-28, but showed a noticeable improvement from the last time the teams played in 2024, a 51-0 loss for the Bulldogs.

“Our biggest thing we talked about last week was stepping up on offense, and I think we did that,” head coach Ben Speer told KBEY’s Ben Shields in an interview. “You still want to win, but you’ve got to see progress. We were real pleased with the way they showed up.”

Now, Speer has his sights set on the Bumblebees, who the Bulldogs beat 49-35 in 2024. The Little River team has had two close losses this season: 33-29 against Connally and 21-14 against Lexington.

“I think the biggest thing here is that they’re very athletic, very talented,” Speer said of the Bumblebees. “They don’t have a whole lot of numbers, but I think it is important to execute when we can and get ahead of them.”

The coach hopes homecoming isn’t too much of a distraction for his team on game night.

“With all the hoopla going on, it’s all fun, but they’ll always ask, ‘Who won the game?’” he told Shields. “We can’t get caught up in those distractions.”

Faith Academy Flames vs. Heritage Christian Eagles

KICKOFF: 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12

WHERE: Faith Academy, 3151 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls

LAST WEEK: Faith Academy 83, Valor North Austin 13

The Flames (2-0) are on a hot streak they hope to continue against Heritage Christian (2-0) at home.

In 2024, Faith Academy lost 52-14 to the Eagles, who had a deep playoff run that year, going 12-1 overall.
