The 23rd Marble Falls Triathlon is now a duathlon after organizers canceled the swim portion because of flood-impacted conditions on Lake Marble Falls. The cycling and running portions are still on for Sunday, July 27.

Organizers made the decision to drop the lead-off swim on Monday. Following the Fourth of July weekend flood, Lake Marble Falls was plagued with debris, fast currents, and higher-than-normal bacteria levels. The city temporarily closed the lake immediately after the flood, and the Lower Colorado River Authority recommended people stay off all of the Highland Lakes, including Marble Falls, until conditions returned to normal.

The now-Marble Falls duathlon, sanctioned by USA Triathlon, features two divisions for cycling and running in this order:

  • Sprint—2.2-mile run, 12-mile bike ride, 2.2-mile run
  • Intermediate—2.2-mile run, 16-mile bike ride, 4.4-mile run
