U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms 3rd Class Bryce Laake-Stanfield of Marble Falls joins more than 250 seriously wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans at the U.S. Department of Defense Warrior Games Challenge from July 18-26 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He will be competing against athletes representing the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, and Special Operations Command in archery, sitting volleyball, swimming, and track.
An athlete all his life, Laake-Stanfield, who joined the Navy in 2021, was eager to get involved with adaptive sports after learning about it through his Navy Wounded Warrior care team. He attended his first challenge last year.
“They encouraged me to get involved, even with my disabilities,” he said in a Navy media release about the games. “It empowered me to show myself and others that I am still an athlete.”
Hosted by U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, the Warrior Games is an elite adaptive-sports competition in its 15th year. It highlights the exceptional physical skills and mental toughness of wounded and ill service members and veterans, celebrating personal tenacity and perseverance.
