‘Forever Plaid’ musical auditions May 31 and June 1

The Hill Country Community Theatre is seeking musical male actors for its production of “Forever Plaid.” Auditions are 6 p.m. May 31 and 2 p.m. June 1 at the theater, 4003 FM 2147 West in Cottonwood Shores.
The show runs Aug. 15-24 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. It will be directed by Heidi Melton.
“Forever Plaid” is a heartfelt, hilarious musical revue that pays tribute to the close-harmony guy groups of the 1950s. The story follows four young men—Sparky, Smudge, Jinx, and Frankie—who are tragically killed in a car crash on the way to their first big gig. Miraculously, they are granted one final chance to return to Earth and perform the concert of their dreams. With charming innocence and pitch-perfect harmonies, the Plaids sing their way through an unforgettable set of 1950s classics.
AUDITITION REQUIREMENTS
- Participants should prepare one song in a style similar to the show (no a cappella auditions).
- Cold readings from the script will follow vocal auditions.
- There will also be a movement component, so auditioners should wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear.
CAST
(All roles are male, ages 20-35)
- Francis—The leader and caretaker of the group. Confident. Asthmatic. He has a great deal of compassion for the music and the group. Romantic crooner and spiritual singer. Vocal range: B5 to F3
- Sparky—The clown of the group, who is shown to have a heart. Very sharp and loves singing his tailor-made solos. Wears a retainer and has a slight speech impediment. Energetic and clever. Vocal range: G5 to F3
- Jinx—The shy one. He lives his life terrified and doesn’t always remember what song comes next. Sparky’s step-brother. He occasionally gets a nosebleed when he sings above an A. Vocal range: C6 to F3
- Smudge—The worrier. He worries about the props and the running order and always assumes the audience won’t like him. Has a chronic nervous stomach and is oddly reluctant to perform. Wears glasses, which hide his good looks and sex appeal. Vocal range: G5 to F3
