The Falls on the Colorado Museum in Marble Falls is now accepting entries for its 2026 calendar photo contest through June 2. The theme is waterscapes of the Highland Lakes.
“It doesn’t have to be a lake, river, or creek—although we have a lot of that here,” said Darlene Oostermeyer, chair of the museum’s Board of Directors. “We mean any kind of water, whether it’s out of a fountain, falling from the sky, or in a puddle. You are the photographer.”
Two submissions per person are allowed. The photos will be on display at the museum by June 9 for visitors to view and vote on their favorites until June 30. Donations of $1 per vote are appreciated and will go toward museum maintenance.
The top 15 photos will be published with photo credits in the 2026 calendar. The first 12 will represent each month, while the next three ranked pictures will be featured on the cover and back pages. Smaller copies of the next-highest ranked 12 photos will be shown in a lower corner on each month’s page.
Calendars will be available for purchase around Sept. 20, when contest judge and professional photographer Martelle Luedecke hosts a presentation.
The contest is in its second year following a successful inaugural edition.
“The 2025 calendars are sold out,” Oostermeyer said. “They have been popular, and we look forward to presenting a new year’s worth of local talent for 2026.”
Both amateur and professional photographers were among the top picks in 2025.
“Anyone with an eye and a camera phone is eligible to submit,” Oostermeyer said. “The Highland Lakes area certainly has some wonderful waterscapes to work with, especially since we have received a little rain. We look forward to seeing what our local shutterbugs come up with.”
The most important requirement for photos is that they be printed horizontally or landscape. Images in vertical or portrait mode do not fit into the calendar format.
The Falls on the Colorado Museum is located at 2001 Broadway in the Old Granite School building. The museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is free. Visit fallsmuseum.org for more information.
