The Marble Falls Independent School District is adjusting the leadership of two elementary schools to accommodate the resignation of Marble Falls Elementary School Principal Michael Haley at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
Current Spicewood Elementary Principal Kara Gasaway will take Haley’s place at Marble Falls Elementary, and MFISD Executive Director of Secondary Education Dr. Heather Metzgar will take Gasaway’s place at Spicewood, both moves coming at the beginning of 2025-26.
Gasaway, who has been the Spicewood Elementary principal since 2022, has a combined 28 years of experience in education, including nine years with MFISD as an assistant principal on multiple campuses and serving as a Marble Falls Elementary reading specialist and a federal program compliance coordinator. She is married to MFISD Superintendent Dr. Jeff Gasaway, who assumed his role in March 2023 after being the assistant superintendent for several years.
“I am so excited to be rejoining the Marble Falls Elementary staff, students, and parents,” said Kara Gasaway in a March 13 media release from the district. “While I will miss the Spicewood community, I look forward to this next chapter.”
Metzgar takes the helm at Spicewood Elementary with 29 years of experience in education, including as a teacher, counselor, and administrator at all grade-school levels. While with MFISD, she has specialized in guiding secondary education efforts and improving overall academic performance across the district. She is also a previous Texas Principals and Supervisors Association Assistant Principal of the Year.
“I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve as principal next year at Spicewood Elementary,” Metzgar said. “It is an amazing campus with a skilled staff, supportive parents, and enthusiastic students. I look forward to being part of the (Spicewood Elementary) family in their continued journey of excellence.”

Sorry to see Mr. Haley go. He was a great principal during our time there.
