Burnet County Judge James Oakley signed an order lifting the county’s burn ban as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, due to recent rain and more wet weather in the forecast. The ban had been in place since July 11 — 105 days of no burning allowed in the county.

Oakley discussed the possibility of lifting the ban during the Burnet County Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday, but no action was taken.

Burnet County has received scattered showers since Monday. Rain is expected to fall across the county for at least the next seven days, according to the National Weather Service.

The Keetch-Byram Drought Index shows Burnet County with an average rating of 321 out of 800, indicating fairly low fire risk. The county regularly uses the index as a guideline to determine burn ban implementation.
