The 2021 First Responders Steer Saddling Competition is Friday during the Marble Falls Rodeo, which is July 15-17 at Charley Taylor Arena, 3053 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls. Arena doors open at 6:30 p.m. each night; action begins at 8 p.m. at the annual Marble Falls Rodeo Association event.

Admission is free to first responders and ages 5 and younger. Tickets are $15 for ages 13 and older and $5 for ages 6-12.

During the event, teams of three first responders will attempt to saddle a steer and ride it across the finish line in the least amount of time possible. The winning team wins bragging rights and the jackpot of contest entry fees, which they traditionally donate to a local charity or deserving individual.

“(The event) gives our first responders an evening to relax, have fun, and talk a little smack to each other,” said Lynette Courtney, assistant emergency management coordinator for Marble Falls, in a statement to DailyTrib.com.

This year’s participants include teams from the Marble Falls Police Department, Marble Falls Fire Rescue, and other first responder agencies.

Friday is also Pink Out Night at the rodeo. Attendees are encouraged to wear pink clothing to show support for those fighting cancer.
