prekindergartenParents and guardians who missed the Marble Falls Independent School District’s Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Roundup at elementary campuses on April 30 can still register their children.

All they need to do is visit the campus in their school district zone with relevant paperwork for their child, including a vaccination chart, according to MFISD Director of Elementary Education Leslie Baty.

Baty encourages families to start the procedure now because officials can point out what the child needs to be ready for the first day of the 2019-20 school year.

“We don’t want them scrambling at the last minute to get the shots they need,” she said.

While there is no charge for kindergarteners to attend classes, the full-day prekindergarten program requires a $4,000 fee, which would be broken into 10 monthly payments of $400 each. Each MFISD elementary campus offers pre-K.

However, families meeting one of several exemptions may enroll their child at no cost. Exemptions include being unable to speak or comprehend English; being homeless; being in or having been in foster care; being the child of an active duty military member or a member who was injured or killed while serving; or being the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer, a firefighter, or an emergency medical first responder.

Studies show a quality pre-K program gives students a boost for longterm academic success.
