Burnet and Llano track athletes advance to regional meet

It’s on to Kingsville and the regional meet for a batch of Llano and Burnet track-and-field athletes after they took care of business at the District 27 and 28 area meet.

The area meet, held at Liberty Hill High School, determined who advanced to the Class 4A Region IV meet, which is April 26-27 at Javelina Stadium on the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus, 1200 N. Armstrong Ave. The top four finishers in each event advanced.

Both Burnet and Llano had a gold medalist in throwing events.

Burnet’s Roger Craig won the discus with a toss of 149 feet and 10 inches, while Llano’s Courtney Reina captured first place in the shot put with a heave of 39-01.

On the track, Llano’s Quincy Prince came in third in the 200 meters in 23.35 seconds.

Burnet’s 4×100-meter relay team of Yuki Tsuboi, Braden McPherson, Cameron Guenter-Long, and Jaxon Denton took home silver in a time of 43.61 seconds.

Lady Dawgs Phebe Musasa and Sydne Massoletti were second and third in the 200 meters in 27.68 seconds and 27.82 seconds, respectively. Teammate Macy Hollowell captured silver in the 400 meters in 1:00.68.

All eyes were on the middle distance races featuring Llano’s Anna Casey, the defending Class 4A state champion in the 800 meters and 1,600 meters.

Casey was second in the 800 meters in 2:28.51, edging Burnet’s Briezie Luedecke, who was third in 2:29.21, and Burnet’s Trynadee Greenwell, who was fourth in 2:29.37.

Casey was fourth in the 1,600 meters in 5:33.71, while Luedecke finished fourth in the 3,200 meters in 12:10.22.

Lady Jacket Kamryn Wenzel took bronze in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.25 seconds.

Llano’s 4×200-meter relay team of Kamryn Wenzel, Lilly Christopher, Emily Perez, and Etta Cuthbertson came in fourth in 1:49.65.

Burnet’s 4×400-meter relay team of Rylee Carroll, Phebe Musasa, Kayla Gillaspie, and Macy Hollowell was fourth in 4:06.82.

Massoletti also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 11.25 inches.

The Lady Dawgs finished sixth in the team standings with 49 points.
