Series of forums presents Llano County GOP candidates to voters

KINGSLAND — A series of community forums and candidate meetings will provide Llano County residents with a chance to get to know who’s running for election in the March 6 Republican primaries.

An upcoming event 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Kingsland Community Center, 3451 Rose Hill Drive, will feature a number of candidates in contested races facing the public for a question-and-answer session.

“They can meet with the candidates one on one, talk about their qualifications, their positions on different topics Llano County thinks are important,” Llano County Republican Chairman Jim Simmons said.

Among the contested races are the Llano County judge GOP primary election in which incumbent Mary Cunningham will face challenger Ron Cunningham. (The candidates are not related.)

In the Llano County Precinct 2 commissioner’s category, incumbent Linda Raschke has a primary challenger, law enforcement officer Ricky Johnson.

Also, in Precinct 2, the justice of the peace race will pit three candidates against each other: Bucky Boswell, Steve Lang, and Maureen Riggs. Incumbent Linda Ballard did not file to run again.

In the Llano County Precinct 1 justice of the peace race, incumbent Bebe Piatt will face former justice of the peace Richard Owen.

The Llano County clerk’s race finds incumbent Marci Hadeler facing challenger Clayton Etter.

The winner of the primaries will advance to the election Nov. 6 with potential Democrat or other party challengers.

The following is a list of additional upcoming meetings and forums for the Llano County primary candidates:

• Feb. 1 —  Llano Tea Party Local Candidate Forum General Meeting, 6 p.m., Llano American Legion Hall, 200 Legion Drive in Llano

• Feb. 13 — Highland Lakes Republican Women and Llano County Republican Club County Candidate Forum, 5:30 p.m., Sunrise Beach Community Center, 124 Sunrise Drive in Sunrise Beach Village

• Feb. 15 — Llano County Republican Party candidate forum, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Kingsland Branch Library, 125 W. Polk St. in Kingsland

• Feb. 20 — Star Republican Women Republican Candidates Forum, 12:30 p.m., Llano and Burnet County candidates, Quail Point Community Center, 107 Twilight Lane in Horseshoe Bay

• Feb. 20 — Llano County Republican Club hosting Texas Land Commissioner candidate forum, 6 p.m., Llano American Legion Hall, 200 Legion Drive. Event is $15 per person. Call Lou Moyer at (325) 248-5032 for more information or tickets.
