Emergency town hall called over TxDOT’s plans for RR 1431

KINGSLAND — Residents who drive RR 1431 in Kingsland and Llano County can share their thoughts on possible changes to the roadway with the Texas Department of Transportation during an emergency town hall meeting Tuesday, June 27.
The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 3435 RR 1431 in Kingsland.
Llano County Precinct 3 Commissioner Mike Sandoval said one of the reasons for this emergency meeting was concerns he and others had after TxDOT revealed future plans for the highway, including changing part of it to a Super 2 configuration.
“(A Super 2) is basically what you have on (Texas) 71 going to Llano where it’s two lanes of traffic, but then you have passing lanes in some parts,” Sandoval said.
He feels this type of layout wouldn’t work for RR 1431 in Kingsland and Llano County.
Sandoval shared his concerns with TxDOT district engineer Terry McCoy, who agreed to take another look at the stretch of roadway through Kingsland all the way to where it intersects Texas 261 in Llano County.
The emergency meeting will focus on three parts of RR 1431:
- from RR 2545 to RR 3404 (Slab Road)
- from RR 3404 to Texas 29
- from Texas 29 to Texas 261
Seating is limited to 500 people. Though the project affects RR 1431 in Llano County precincts 2 and 3, everyone who drives the highway is invited to attend and provide input.
Sandoval said McCoy plans to attend the meeting and TxDOT will base its plans for these parts of RR 1431 on the input gathered from the event.
“TxDOT said they are going to listen to what we say,” the commissioner added.
