Sophie W. Wertman, 90, of Kingsland died Aug. 13, 2016

Sophie W. Wertman, 90, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away peacefully Aug. 13, 2016. She was born to Michael and Anna (Szczudlik) Wosochlo on Aug. 21, 1925, in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania.

Together, Sophie and her husband, Dan, owned and operated Wertman’s White/Elna Sewing Center in Slatington, Pennsylvania, for more than 30 years. Sophie was a professional seamstress and taught sewing classes, while Dan performed sewing machine repairs. Eventually, they retired to travel and, in the early 1990s, moved to Texas to be near Sophie’s sister.

She is survived by her husband of more than 62 years, Amandus “Dan” Wertman of Kingsland; sister Teresa W. Owen of Gainsville, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Wosochlo; and sisters Helen Fleisher and Lottie Mullin.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. Aug. 17 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, located on Park Road 4 in Burnet.
