Dorothy Slinkard Rodgers

Dorothy “Dot” Slinkard Rodgers, 93 of Marble Falls, Texas, passed away May 16, 2016. She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Otho and Alma Westrich Slinkard.

She married her high school sweetheart, Ralph E. “Bud” Rodgers, on Feb. 17, 1944. They settled in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where her two sons were born. The young family relocated to Dallas in 1954.

She enjoyed boating, water sports, golf and needlepoint. One of her needlepoint quilts was awarded first premium prize at the State Fair of Texas in 1971. After the boys left home, she and Bud began traveling in the first of their three motorhomes. They traveled across the United States, mostly as members of the Rolling Nobles, a Masonic Schriners organization. She often said her RVing adventures were great fun.

She adored her grandchildren, and spending time with them was by far her most enjoyable pastime.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph E. Rodgers; brother Dennis “Sonny” Slinkard; and son Robert E. Rodgers.

She is survived by her son Steve Rodgers and wife Carol of Marble Falls; grandchildren, Stacy Rodgers and Jenny Rodgers, both of Austin, Kristy Knaupp Beyer and husband Brett of Fredericksburg, Jackie Rodgers Waneck and husband Clay of Rosanky, and Will Rodgers and Dee Suttle Downing, both of DeQueen, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Brody Beyer and Kaden Beyer, both of Fredericksburg, and Elena Rodgers and Robert Jaxon Woodson Rodgers, both of DeQueen, Arkansas; nieces Kathy Reckley of Branson, Missouri, and Beth Gray of Olive Branch, Missouri; and nephew Dennis Kerry Slinkard of Newark, Delaware.

A gathering of family and friends honoring her life is planned for Dorothy from 5-6 p.m. May 24 at Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A guest register may be signed at putnamcares.com. Her remains will rest with her late husband at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Her loved ones will remember her as a loving, compassionate and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

The family wishes to thank the staff and management of Gateway Villa Assisted Living Center and Granite Mesa Nursing Home for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, (844) 739-0849, www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/donate.
