Edward J. Hinz
Edward J. Hinz passed away March 15, 2016, in Temple, Texas, at the age of 88. He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Farmington, Wisconsin, to Esther Elizabeth (Boucher) and Paul Clement Hinz.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Geneva Marie (Reedy); parents; and siblings Marcellus Hinz, Virgil Hinz, Virginia Benter, Manford Hinz and Clifford Hinz.
Edward served in the Army during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War, after which he began working with North American Rockwell on several logistics projects, finally landing in the Apollo program. He worked for Rockwell during the entire Apollo program and retired about halfway through the shuttle program. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan for 80-plus years and was excited about the new season about to begin.
He is survived by his siblings Allen Hinz of Anamosa, Iowa, Vernice Shada of Anamosa, Iowa, and Sylvester Hinz and wife Joanne of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters-in-law Ruth Hinz and husband Manford and Twila Adams and husband Orlyn; beloved children, Nanette Edmonds and husband Dale of Temple and Murray Hinz and wife Tina of League City; as well as grandchildren, Joshua Hinz and wife Leslie, Kirsten Hinz, Kevin Edmonds and wife Tammy, Stephanie Edmonds and Adam Edmonds and wife Melissa; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is 4 p.m. March 18 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home , 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A graveside service will be held after the memorial at Llano City Cemetery with the Rev. Melvin Dornak of Holy Trinity Catholic Church officiating.
