Martha Ann Johnson, 73, died Feb. 14, 2016
Martha Ann Johnson passed away Feb. 14, 2016 after a three-year battle with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Martha was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Kerrville, Texas, to Fred and Olivia (Bruns) Arnecke.
Martha’s early years involved attending Tivy High School, where she excelled in both academics and athletics. She was an outstanding tennis player, which extended into her years at Texas Lutheran College. She received her degree from the University of Houston and began a 30-year career in teaching. Her subjects taught were history and physical education with students receiving the benefit of her knowledge in Angleton, Rockdale, Midlothian, Lamar CISD and Copperas Cove as she made various moves with her football coach husband.
Martha particularly enjoyed snow skiing and travel, which received much of her attention after retirement. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Fred; children, Cindy and Glenn; brother Burleigh and wife Sue; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Per the request of the deceased, no funeral ceremony or memorial will be held. The immediate family will meet for dispersal of her cremated remains. If anyone wishes to make a donation in her honor, you might consider Hill Country Fellowship Church, 200 Houston Clinton Drive, Burnet, TX 78611.
