Sarah Anne Williams

Sarah Anne “Sally” Williams was born Feb. 3, 1933, and went up to sing in the Lord’s choir on Dec. 23, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born in Philadelphia and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she graduated from Queen’s College in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

She loved the adventure of new experiences and new friends, so she moved to Honolulu in 1959 to work for Hilton Hotels. In 1961, she moved to New York to work for Chemstrand Corp., and in 1966, to San Mateo, California, for jobs at Koret of California and later the Stanford University Research Institute.

In 1972, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia, and worked for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and, later, the American Society of Travel Agents.

She moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas, in 1989 to be closer to family and worked for the contract Horseshoe Bay Post Office for five years before the U.S. Postal Service took over. While at the post office, Sally was the first person many people met when they moved to town.

She had lived in Marble Falls since 1997 and worked for the Marble Falls Independent School District in the high school cafeteria until she retired in 2013.

She also volunteered at the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce visitors center and received the Volunteer of the Year award twice.

Sally was a longtime member of the choir at the Church at Horseshoe Bay and also volunteered in the church office. Always cheerful and optimistic, she preferred to focus on the positive, full of hope and prayers. She inspired those who knew her.

Sally is survived by her brother P.T. and wife Jill of Horseshoe Bay; niece Catharine Williams of Charlotte; nephew Philip Williams of Charlotte; and Jill’s children, Pastor Kendall Meyer and wife Lynn of Quincy, Illinois, and Torrey Meyer of Saint Louis, Missouri, and their children.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. Jan. 6, 2016, the Church at Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge. A reception will follow.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Church at Horseshoe Bay, P.O. Box 8295, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657.

Sally had many friends and loved each day of her life. She never met a stranger and was full of interesting information and ideas while working at the visitors center. She most enjoyed the companionship of her cat, neighbor Carolyn, her church, the Marble Falls chamber and her Plungettes marching group friends. She will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Scott & White clinics and hospital in Marble Falls.

  1. I shared a retail spot in the same building where Sally worked for several years prior to relocating to Horseshoe Bay to live near her brother. Sally was such a wonderful person. She was most always cheerful and caring, and one you could share your feelings with. I adored Sally, and was often intrigued by her overwhelming love for cats. If ever there was to be a person to meet strangers at any welcome center, Sally set the standard.

I was thinking about old times while living in Alexandria,Va, as an army wife, and stumbled on this most regrettable news about Sally. Truly, it can be said that many people who never chanced to meet Sally, missed getting to know a wonderful person. Look down on me from above Sally and keep your smile!
