FROM STAFF REPORTS
BURNET — Officials have credited the “quick and decisive action” of two Marble Falls police officers for recently saving a man’s life at the Burnet County Courthouse.
The incident happened the morning of Dec. 7 when a middle-aged man was stricken with what appeared to be a heart-related problem while he was visiting the courthouse annex for a personal matter.
As the incident unfolded, Marble Falls Police Sgt. Robert Talamantes and Officer Aaron Garcia were in another part of the building for district court appearances.
A courthouse employee alerted the officers about the man, who had fallen ill, as more staff members called 9-1-1 and retrieved a defibrillator for the officers.
“Sgt. Talamantes and Officer Garcia revived him. Once he was transported to Seton Highland Lake hospital, he was stabilized, and then he was transported to a hospital in Austin,” said Public Information Officer and Marble Falls Police Capt. Glenn Hanson.
The man is recovering and expected to survive, Hanson said.
Training the officers utilized to save the man included CPR, automatic external defibrillator education and tactical combat casualty care.
“They are not timid. They’re confident in their abilities because they’ve been well trained,” Hanson said. “It makes me proud to work with men like these two guys who are intelligent and highly motivated.”
The officers are expected to be nominated for the 2015 Lifesaving Award, given to city employees who save a life with documented witnesses.
Garcia and Talamantes have joined a list of members of the public safety community in Burnet and Marble Falls recently recognized for their service.
Officer Corey Munoz was given a letter of commendation by Marble Falls Police Chief Mark Whitacre for the officer’s philanthropic activities above and beyond his law enforcement duties including directing the public with locating charitable resources and services.
Marble Falls Police Officer Justin Boucher was awarded employee of the year by the city of Marble Falls for exemplary service.
