Dr. Bennie “Ben” C. Wooley, 76, passed away Dec. 10, 2015, at his home in Highland Haven, Texas. He was born in Austin to Claude and Ruby Wooley.

Dr. Wooley was raised in San Angelo, where he graduated from high school.

He studied bacteriology at Texas Technological College and microbiology at University of Oklahoma, earning a Ph.D.

After graduation, Dr. Wooley joined NASA as part of the manned missions to the moon. At NASA, he took part in the development and operation of the Lunar receiving laboratory at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

After leaving NASA, he joined Becton Dickinson, where he served as head of Quality Assurance in Paterson, New Jersey. Dr. Wooley ultimately became CEO of Huntingdon International Holdings.

Bennie was an overachiever in every endeavour, from his education and career to his varied interests and pursuits. Among other things, he was an Eagle Scout, a trophy-winning drag racer and a commercial tree farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.

Bennie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; sons, Grant (Kelly) and Eric (Tiffany); and grandsons, Brandon (fiancée Rachael), Jesse and Justin. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Dinga.

A private, family service was held as Bennie requested. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support animal rescue.
