Burnet CISD accepting nominations for its Hall of Honor

BURNET — Nominations are being taken now through Jan. 8 for the third class of the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Hall of Honor.
Superintendent Keith McBurnett said the Hall of Honor is one of his favorite things because it highlights those who have made BCISD unique.
“We are the school district we are today because of the people who came before us,” he said. “We want to make sure we remember … and honor their contributions.”
Nomination forms for the four-member class may be found at burnetcisd.net. The class will include:
• a distinguished Burnet High School graduate who excelled personally or professionally to bring honor to BCISD;
• a distinguished BHS athlete who has shined in athletics either as a Bulldog or playing for another organization;
• a distinguished former board member who has given dedicated service to BCISD’s trustees. McBurnett called this individual the “ultimate volunteer, who spends hours” making the best decisions they can for students;
• a distinguished former employee who has served BCISD faithfully.
All must have graduated or been removed from their service to Burnet High School or BCISD at least 10 years ago.
Part of the nomination requires a 200-word essay on why the individual chose that particular person to recommend to the selection committee.
“Lots of organizations have sports Halls of Fame,” McBurnett said. “We definitely want to recognize those athletes. Burnet CISD is definitely known for outstanding athletes. But we want to honor others.”
The new class will be revealed during the annual Burnet Chamber of Commerce awards dinner in February.
In addition to receiving an award at the dinner, each class member’s name will be engraved on a permanent plaque inside the main foyer at Burnet High School.
“We love this permanent display,” McBurnett said. “People’s names will be on the wall for a long time.”
Inducting a new class is about one important part of the human spirit, the superintendent said.
“It’s really nice to say thank you to those who have given so much to this school district,” he said. “I’m excited. There are still hundreds more stories to tell in our future.”
