J.D. Medlock, 74, of Kingsland, Texas, lost his long, hard fight to esophageal cancer at home surrounded by loved ones Oct. 27, 2015. J.D. was born to Jefferson Medlock Jr. and Anna Kathryn (Moss) on Nov. 25, 1940, in Llano, Texas.

Mr. Medlock retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. Later in life, he was employed with The Helping Center in Marble Falls until he was forced to stop due to his illness. He enjoyed sports — football and baseball being his favorites. He was also very strong in his faith and was a member of the Cross and Spurs Cowboy Church in Buchanan Dam.

J.D. had a huge heart and touched the lives of many in such a beautiful way. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, a cherished friend to many and a blessing to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughters, Maurie Stockford, Deanni Riggs, Mendi Hartung and Tracy Melancon; sons, Jeff Stockford, Jay Stockford, Robby Robinson and Travis Garner; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Zander Easton Torre.

Serving as pallbearers are Travis Garner, Chris Melancon, Hunter Melancon, William Torre, Garrett Hartung and Johnnie Chapman.

Visitation is 9-11 am. Nov. 2 at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A funeral service follows at 11 a.m.  Interment will be at Board Branch Cemetery in Lone Grove.
