Gene Donop passed away Sept. 16, 2015. She was 93 years old. Gene was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Babyhead to Stella and Lofton Tinsley. She was a lifetime resident of Llano County.

Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Donop, to whom she was married for 49 years. They were both members of Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church. She also was preceded in death by five siblings: Otelia Stewart, Oleta Donop, L.B. Tinsley, Willie Wade Tinsley and Marjorie Polk.

Gene loved working as the city secretary of Llano Utilities for more than 35 years as well as throwing the San Angelo and Austin American-Statesman newspapers. She enjoyed quilting and volunteer work at the thrift store in Llano.

Gene is survived by her children, Kenny Donop and wife Mable of Llano and LuAnn Whitehead and husband Jerry of San Angelo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brent Whitehead of San Angelo and Kristen Vanicek and husband Russ, as well as her great-grandchildren, Luke and Kenzie Jo Vanicek, who all reside in Gonzales.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A graveside service is 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at Llano City Cemetery with the Rev. Leslie Tomlinson officiating.
