VOLLEYBALL: Burnet at Glen Rose, Marble Falls at Bastrop

BURNET — The Burnet High School volleyball team kept U.S. 281 moving during the weekend. The Lady Dawgs played in the Glen Rose Tournament on Aug. 20 and 21, finishing seventh out of 26 teams. In between that, they traveled to Bandera on Aug. 21, winning in four sets.

“The Lady Dawgs showed exactly what they are made of this weekend: true fight, drive and determination,” head coach Salye Coles said. “I could not be more proud of their performances.”

Burnet began the final day of tournament play in the gold bracket with wins against Cleburne 25-20, 25-27, 25-19 and Glen Rose 17-25, 25-22, 27-25. The Lady Dawgs lost to Maypearl 21-25, 25-17, 23-25 and Liberty Christian 13-25, 17-25. In pool play Aug. 20, the Lady Dawgs defeated Hico 25-18, 25-10, Paradise 25-11, 25-12 and Cameron 26-24, 25-20 but lost to Denton High School 20-25, 21-25.

Coles said the schedule was challenging, especially since the road trips were long with very little rest. She noted the Lady Dawgs played four consecutive matches Aug. 22, which didn’t allow time for rest or for a meal.

“No one could tell exactly what the team was experiencing,” she said. “They fought hard and outplayed Cleburne to clinch a well-earned victory.”
