ABILENE — Despite the large number of competitors at the 2015 Texas State 4-H Horse Show, the six Burnet County youth showing off their horsemanship skills made big impressions.

The six members of the Burnet County 4-H Club — Jarrett Haydon, Zachary Haydon, Luke Haydon, Emily Moomaw, Macie Mayes and Madeline Holder — earned a spot at the state competition during the District 7 event June 16 in Llano. The group traveled to Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center for the state show July 18-25.

They competed in several events, including ranch horse pleasure, trail and working horse.

The Burnet County 4-H Horse Club members placed six finalists in the various events with some of the classes having more than 100 entries.

Members’ accomplishments include:

• Madeline Holder riding Molly Mae Be Playing was a finalist in stock horse horsemanship and exhibitor in stock horse pleasure, stock horse trail and boxing.

• Emily Moomaw riding Junior Cocoa was an exhibitor in stock horse pleasure, stock horse trail and stock horse showmanship.

• Macie Mayes riding Blue was an exhibitor in stock horse pleasure, stock horse horsemanship, stock horse trail and boxing.

• Luke Haydon riding Wicked Smart was fifth in stock horse trail finals, advanced to the second round in team penning and was an exhibitor in stock horse pleasure, stock horse showmanship, stock horse trail and reining.

• Jarrett Haydon riding Camiseta San Lena was seventh in working cow horse finals, a finalist in stock horse horsemanship and a finalist in stock horse trail. He advanced to the second round of team penning, finished fourth overall in the 2-year-old futurity and was exhibitor in stock horse pleasure and reining.

• Zachary Haydon riding Shirley Temper advanced to the second round in team penning.
