Ruth Nason Goodson passed away July 9, 2015, at the young age of 92. She was born May 9, 1923, to Winford and Maggie Nason in Starksville, Mississippi. She moved to Llano in 1985 after the death of her husband, Charlie J. Goodson, to be close to her stepson Kyle and wife Carolyn Goodson.

Ruth was an avid quilter, making beautiful handmade baby quilts and quilts of all sizes. She created all kinds of needlework, including beautiful silk and metal thread art, but her special love was her seashells. Ruth traveled all over the world diving and snorkeling for beautiful and unique shells. She was a member of the Houston Shell club and had many good friends that traveled with her to collect shells.

Ruth never tired of cleaning and oiling her shells, and she spent many hours studying and admiring them. She loved educating everyone about her shell collection. Ruth could identify each type of shell and tell you where they came from. She especially loved sharing her shell collection with children, and she always gave them shells to take home.

Ruth was a gracious giver. For birthdays and Christmas, she gave her great-grandchildren shells because she wanted them to love the sea and enjoy God’s magnificent creation.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; all her brothers and sisters; her stepson Kyle; and her husband Charlie, whom she adored.

She is survived by her son, Joe Thomas Mehaffey of Houston; daughter–in-law Carolyn Goodson Stovall and husband Larry of Llano; and four grandsons and one granddaughter, whom she loved dearly. The grandchildren are Shawn Mehaffey and wife Bridget of Colorado, Douglas Goodson and wife Pam of Houston, Keith Goodson and wife Sarah of Dripping Springs, Kelly Goodson and wife Jennifer of Fredericksburg and Whitney Bagley and husband Ryan of Houston.

Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren, Kyle, Grace, Alex, Addlyn, Anna Kate, Samuel, Adam, William, Weylyn, Taggart and Charlie as well as her many nephews, nieces and friends.

Ruth’s memorial service is 12:30 p.m. July 26 at Grace Gathering Church, 2651 Texas 29 East in Llano, with the Rev. Jim Rose officiating.

Memorials may be given in Ruth’s name to the Llano Food Pantry; Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675; or the charity of your choice.
