James D. Parsons, 70, of Burnet died July 18, 2015

James D. Parsons, “Jim,” 70, of Burnet, Texas, passed away, July 18, 2015, at his home in Delaware Springs in Burnet. Jim had been fighting lung cancer since his diagnosis in March of this year.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at Hill Country Fellowship Church, 200 Houston Clinton Drive in Burnet. Pastor Rodney McGee will be officiating.
Jim was born Oct. 9, 1944, in Longview, Texas, to Cager and Monette Parsons. He graduated from El Paso High School and attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Jim served in the United States Navy for four years. In addition to military service, Jim served as a police officer for the city of Corpus Christi for 25 years. He served 11 years in Hope, Arkansas, as the Hempstead County Jail administrator.
He married Patsy Fielding on Aug. 10, 1984, in Corpus Christi. Jim and Pat retired to the Delaware Springs community in 2001. He was an avid golfer and marshaled for the Delaware Springs golf course.
Jim, along with his wife, Pat, participated in community fundraising events and spent numerous hours volunteering. He enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife, hunting, building projects, and spending time with his family. Jim was known as the community handy-man.
Jim is survived by his wife, Patsy; sisters, Virginia, Debby, Carol “Dana”, and Darlene; sons, James D. Parsons “Jimbo” and wife Stacy of Friendswood, Jerry D. Parsons and wife Jennifer of Friendswood, Roger Parsons of San Diego, California, and Charles R. McNany “Reagan” and wife Kristy of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; three daughters, Kathy Parsons of Flour Bluff, Cheryl Schilling of Katy and Sheila Park and husband Dave of Skidmore; grandchildren, Joshua Lester, Jacob Lester, Ashley Parsons, Nick Schilling, Trevor Mendenhall, Madison Parsons, Justin Parsons, Courtney Packard, Mitchell Schilling, Grace Mendenhall, Anna Parsons, Hunter Diaz and Jaila Parsons; great-grandchild, Braylon Lester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cager and Monette; brother Cager Jr. “Pee-Wee”; sister Sandy; and grandson Christian.
