George Curtis Rogers, 85, of Llano died July 15, 2015

George Curtis Rogers, better known as “Poppy” or “Pop,” was born Nov. 8, 1929, at his home on Wright Creek in Llano, Texas. He died July 15, 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Karen Wootan and husband Terry, Patti Browning and husband Randy, and Becky Barrett. George is also survived by seven grandchildren, Chad and wife Darla, Jason and wife Megan, Britany and husband Royce, Justin and wife Shawna, Josh and wife Sharla, Casey and Spencer; nine great-grandchildren, Blaine and Kalen; Megan, Cooper and Memphis; Kennedy, Payton and Seth; and Westyn; and five brothers and sisters, Evelyn and husband Roy, David and wife Jackie, Sam and wife Shirlene, Lynn and husband Howard, and Carol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Beulah; sister Eunice; brother J.D.; and son-in-law Bill Barrett.
George and Pat were married Aug. 28, 1951, in Llano. He served in the Marines for three years and spent nine months in Korea. George went to work for the city of Llano’s electric department in 1947. He served as city manager for many years before retiring Dec. 31, 1991.
George was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1938. He loved fishing, both fish and men. (He was good at both.) He dedicated his life to serving Jehovah and spreading Jesus’ message of hope. His desire was to honor Jehovah in all he did; all those who knew him, know he accomplished his goal.
“Well done, good and faithful slave.” Matthew 25:23.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. July 17 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A service is 1 p.m. July 18 at the Llano High School auditorium with burial following at Llano City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chad Wootan, Jason Wootan, Josh Campbell, Justin Browning, Casey Willmon and Spencer Willmon
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scott & White Hospice or Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Sorry for your loss, I just read about Georges passing in 2015. If I had known, I would have visited. I am in the University Congregation in Houston.
