MARBLE FALLS — If you’re looking for a way to plan your weekend here in the Highland Lakes or trying to find out about an upcoming event, then you need to check out the new 101HighlandLakes.com and ThePicayune.com website.
The two names take you to the same site, but it’s all about fun.
“We wanted to create, basically, a one-stop guide for both people who live here and those coming here for a visit,” said Amber Weems, the publisher of Victory Publishing LLC, which owns The Picayune and the website. “The idea is to give people a site they can go to plan their trip or plan their weekend.”
One of the big additions is the calendar.
While The Picayune’s Chatterbox has provided readers with a useful tool for finding out what’s coming up, the online version of the calendar will strive to be the most complete around, listing events, activities, meetings and other things.
If you or your organization has an event that’s open to the public or a fundraiser, email it to chatterbox@thepicayune.com, so it can get included in the new calendar. People can even link up with the calendar through iCal or a subscription to track different events or get alerted when something new is added.
For people looking to plan a trip to the Highland Lakes, 101HighlandLakes.com will eventually offer a way in which visitors or locals alike can book hotel rooms and schedule activities.
“We realize the way people are getting their information is changing, whether it’s on their laptop, tablet or smartphone,” Weems said. “This new website is mobile friendly and allows you to really discover what’s waiting for you in the Highland Lakes.”
Along with the “what to do” and calendar information, people can still find The Picayune stories on the new website as well.
“And we’re not getting rid of DailyTrib.com,” Weems added. “You’ll still be able to find regular news coverage and sports at DailyTrib.com.”
Go to 101HighlandLakes.com or ThePicayune.com to check out the new website and learn how you can start taking advantage of it.
