Ramon ArriagaRamon Arriaga, 72, passed away May 11, 2015, in Llano. He was born May 31, 1942, in San Felipe, Coahuila, México, to Francisco and Paula Arriaga.

Ramon had been a resident of Llano since 1976. He married Irene De Las Fuentes on Oct. 18, 1961, in Mexico and enjoyed their lives together for 53 years.

At the age of 15, Ramon met his future wife, Irene De La Fuentes. After several years of dating and a few years of marriage, they started their family in the town of Sabinas, Coahulia, Mexico. It was a fun, happy, caring and loving family that would provide them with a lifetime of laughter and, most of all, strength — the strength to stay together even through the roughest times.

After realizing the need to provide a sustainable future for his new family, Ramon took a job offering that would bring him to America and the small town of Llano, Texas. He worked hard and did his best to learn any job necessary to secure his family’s future here in this small, quaint town in the Hill Country. He started out as a ranch hand and then transitioned with the times to continue work at the Feed Mill, cut mesquite for local restaurants and was a cook for a time. As we all know now, his last job led him to start his own little restaurant that grew into a family business.

Ramon is well known by his family as a giving man, a hard worker and always being there for when someone needed anything. He very much enjoyed barbecuing at family gatherings and making sure everyone was happy and full with a smile on their face.

His heart possessed such strength that continues on in his children and their ever-expanding families, and those they influence in the world today and forever. Ramon is the beloved husband of Irene; loving dad to eight children; and a caring Pepa to 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Ramon was preceded in death by daughter Laura Arriaga; parents, Francisco and Paula Arriaga; brothers Lionel and Juan Arriaga; and sister Antonia Arriaga.

Ramon is survived by his wife, Irene Arriaga; daughters, Norma Coffey and husband Sean of Galveston, Elizabeth Boyd and husband Mike of Llano, Diana Denton and husband Branden of Colorado City, Texas, Alicia Miller and husband Heath of Llano and Erika Knowlton and husband Chase of Round Rock; sons, Ramon Arriaga and wife Elodia of Llano and David Arriaga of Austin; grandchildren, Bryan Rork, Stevie Lathi and husband David, Sean Coffey Jr., Samantha Coffey, Amanda Rusche and husband Matthew, Michael Berman and fiancé Kelsi Hickman, Travis Berman, Bradley Denton and wife Amanda, Jeremy Denton, Mercedes, Ramon Jr., Lexus, Emilio and Shelby Arriaga, Holly Madrid and husband Ronnie, and Dillon Miller; and great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Victoria and Sophia Rusche, Jacelyn and Jonah Berman, Gracie Denton and Rowan Madrid.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. May 13 at Waldrop-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. A celebration of life in his honor is 2 p.m. May 14 at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Llano City Cemetery.
