Bettye J. ChamblissBettye J. Chambliss, 84, of Sunrise Beach Village, Texas, passed away May 8, 2015. She was born to John Sr. and Ginnie (Adams) Gerlach on April 22, 1931, in Helna, Arkansas.

Bettye was very active in many causes. She was on the Llano Child Welfare Board, CASA, a member of the Highland Lakes United Methodist Church choir, Kingsland Community Church scholarship committee, Bluebonnet Chorale, the Sunrise Beach Beachers, past president of the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and a member of the CCAA in Sunrise Beach Village. She had several master’s degrees and was a teacher in Mississippi and New Mexico and a principle in California and in the Northside ISD in San Antonio.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles “Lane” Chambliss; daughter, Bettyelane Chambliss-Kosarek of Burnet; son, Mickey Kosarek of Austin; sister, Frances Pfiefer of Tennessee; and brother, John “Bud” Gerlach Jr., also of Tennessee.

Mrs. Chambliss was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life service is 2 p.m. May 18 at Highland Lakes United Methodist Church on RR 1431 in Buchanan Dam. The Rev. Grady Roe will officiate.
