Marcella Beaudry Clayton, 91, died March 13, 2015
Marcella Beaudry Clayton was born Jan. 13, 1924, in High Prairie, Alberta, Canada. She passed away on March 13, 2015, in Austin. She was 91.
She was the daughter of violinist and entrepreneur August Beaudry and Maggie (Ghostkeeper) Ferguson Beaudry, a member of the Cree Indian tribe, which mostly lived in the area extending from the southern end of Alberta. They were blessed with 13 children and were faithful churchgoers in the Catholic faith.
August and Maggie took over Alfred Beaudry’s farm, and they remained there until their deaths.
Marcella married soldier Max Clayton of Copperas Cove, Texas. They also had a large family, raising 10 children and two grandchildren.
Marcella attended nursing school in Temple, Texas, where she attained her nursing license. She taught her children to have high morals and gave them a proper upbringing, emphasizing education and ambition.
She never returned to Canada. She remained in Texas as the matriarch of her tribe. After being married for many years, she became a widow in 1999 when her husband died.
Her legacy lives on through her family and musical achievements.
Her family is asking for donations, and proceeds benefit her final expenses.
