Spicewood couple loses home after garage fire reignites
FROM STAFF REPORTS
SPICEWOOD — A couple has lost their home to a fire that reignited several hours after firefighters worked to contain it to a garage, officials say.
The fire was first reported about 6 p.m. March 14 in the 1300 block of Rustic Lane, located off Texas 71 in a subdivision called The Place in Spicewood.
“It started in the garage, and that awning had caught fire,” said Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Chief Michael Phillips. “They thought they had it out, and then the next day, it appeared that something was still hot in the awning area or breezeway area that caught the kitchen and the living room area.”
Crews from area agencies responded to assist the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department.
“(The house) had some severe damage to it,” Phillips said. “They were able to recover some of their belongings in the living room area, but they lost two vehicles and a small ATV.”
Spicewood VFD officials are expected to contact the Burnet County Fire Marshal’s office for an investigation into the cause of the fire.
