FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — During the 2013-2014 academic year, more than 5.1 million students attended Texas public schools, making it one of the largest school systems in the nation.

That’s something worth celebrating.

And from March 5-13, Burnet Consolidated Independent School District is doing just that during Celebrate Texas Public Schools. The district is inviting parents and community members to come out and help recognize the incredible efforts of public schools, staff and students.

Some of the highlights include:

• Math and Science Night, March 5 from 6-7:15 p.m. at Burnet Elementary School, 607 N. Vanderveer in Burnet. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with pizza.

• Come-and-Go Open House at Burnet Middle School, March 9 from 5-6 p.m., 1401 N. Main St. in Burnet. Parents can also learn about the Pre-AP courses from 6-6:30 p.m.

• Shattered Dreams, March 11-12 at the Burnet High School throughout the days provides an educational experience for students to remind them of the dangers of drinking and driving. The high school is located at 1000 The Green Mile in Burnet.

• Open House and Science Fair, March 12 from 6-7 p.m. at R.J. Richey Elementary School, 500 E. Graves in Burnet. The Book Fair is March 9-13 during the day.
