BUCHANAN DAM — Nancy Patrick knew there had to be more to her life than being a flight attendant. So she became a life coach and now wants to help others find their own paths during a free seminar March 7.

The event is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Lakeshore Branch Library, 7346 Texas 261.

Patrick was a flight attendant for 13 years but was very unsatisfied in her career.

“I didn’t want to go to work and do a job I hated every day,” she said. “I wanted (my career) to be meaningful and worthwhile. I was not meeting my basic needs and values.”

She always wanted to be a counselor and discovered life coaching. She earned her certification at the Professional Christian Coaching Institute.

As a professional life coach, Patrick helps people answer the questions “Now what?” and “Where do I go from here?”

“Therapy is a lot of past hurts and healing,” she said. “(PCCI president) Christopher McCluskey became aware of ‘what do I do now?’ Life coaches (help) answer that question of ‘where do I want to be?’”

Patrick, who has been a life coach for a year and a half and has helped 60 people, is not a therapist or licensed counselor, she said.

“A life coach doesn’t give advice and is not a consultant,” she said.

However, she talks to individuals to learn more about them, to discover what they want to do, help unveil the barriers and guide them on formulating a plan for how to get there.

“Sometimes, people have so much of what they want to do, they do nothing,” Patrick said. “We help them get clear and concise about what you do and what’s holding you back. We’ll build a strategy and a plan of action.”

Attendees will be given startup questions to answer before the seminar “because it gives them a head start to use the time more effectively.”

“It’s completely a person’s agenda,” she said. “We’ll help them find their own answers and support. I want to see people move. I want to be in the joy of seeing them accomplish their goals.”
