MARBLE FALLS — The Burnet County Friends of NRA is raising money for firearm awareness, education and safety with a five-gun prize giveaway featuring an AR-15 rifle.

The drawing for the fourth annual event is noon Feb. 28 at Texas Hill Country Outfitters Rods, Barrels & Strings, 1008 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls.

Organizers for the Burnet County group host the event every year in commemoration of Texas Independence Day, which is March 2.

“The fundraiser is important, primarily for the local community. We actually brought back (from the national level) more money last year than we raised in the community,” Friends chairman Mark McDonald said. “We funded six grants last year, three law enforcement — one to the 4-H shooting team, one to the 4-H shotgun team and one for the New Venture Club of the First Baptist Church.”

Participants can buy tickets at $100 each for chances to win an Armalite 30A1 338 with an ATN night-vision scope, Daniel Defense M4 Carbine V1, Kel-TEC KSG 12-gauge shotgun, Glock 19 semi-automatic 9 mm and a Ruger LCR .357 revolver. Only 400 tickets are available.

To launch the event Feb. 28, the nonprofit group also will host a prize giveaway at 11:30 a.m. called Wall of Guns before the big drawing.

Participants purchase $20 tickets for a chance to win from a selection of more than two dozen firearms. Walk-ins are welcome.

To find out more or purchase tickets for the five-gun giveaway or the Wall of Guns drawing, call McDonald at (830) 693-4613 or Rods, Barrels & Strings at (830) 693-7520.
