BURNET — A lack of applicants is the reason the Miss Burnet Bluebonnet Scholarship Pageant has been postponed from Feb. 28 until April.
Pageant director Danisa Scott announced the change Feb. 24.
“Lack of participation and word not getting out,” she cited as the reasons.
For the past five years, the pageant was conducted one week before the Bluebonnet Festival. But organizers decided to hold the pageant weeks earlier before spring activities began that might have kept some Burnet High School girls from competing in the pageant.
Instead, committee members found the late February date had the opposite effect.
And since it’s a scholarship pageant, the committee is trying to make it easier for the contestants to compete by delaying it.
Scholarship money goes to the top three finishers in the Miss Burnet contest with the winner receiving the crown and $1,500, the first alternate receiving $500 and the second alternate receiving $250.
