MARBLE FALLS — What’s Valentine’s Day without pie from the Blue Bonnet Cafe and a stout from Save the World Brewing Co.?

We’re talking about one of the brewery’s latest creations: Verbum in Tenebris, a unique double milk chocolate stout.

“It’s a big, delicious chocolate stout,” said David Rathkamp, who owns the brewing company along with his wife, Quynh. “It’s the perfect Valentine’s drink.”

Save the World Brewing Co. is teaming up with the Blue Bonnet Cafe, which will be doling out slices of pie, for a Feb. 14 event to benefit the Phoenix Center. People can enjoy a slice of pie and a dollop of ice cream for $5.

While we’re on the subject of ice cream, Rathkamp said Amy’s Ice Cream, which is based out of Austin, recently turned to Save the World for the new chocolate stout to use in one of its ice cream flavors. And, rumor has it that Amy’s Ice Cream might be on hand during the event as well for “something special.”

But, Rathkamp added, this event is really an effort between Save the World and the Blue Bonnet Cafe to support a great organization in the Phoenix Center.

The Phoenix Center provides high-quality mental health services to Highland Lakes children. The organization uses a variety of classes, programs and even a summer camp to help these children. For more on the Phoenix Center, go to www.phoenixcentertexas.org.

The benefit is noon-5 p.m. at Save the World Brewing Co., 1510 Resource Parkway off U.S. 281 on the north side of Marble Falls.

Rathkamp said the Verbum in Tenebris stout only will be available at the brewing company for the next few months before it becomes available in bottles later this spring.

“But until then, this is the only place you can get it,” he said. Rathkamp described the stout as having a smooth chocolate flavor with a touch of mint.

The Phoenix Center event is open to everybody, especially families and children. Rathkamp said Save the World Brewing Co. will have games set up around the property for people to enjoy.

“Just come on out, have a good time and help out a great organization,” he added.
