MARBLE FALLS — Allen Roberts’ departure to become the assistant superintendent of human resources at Alvin Independent School District has left a void at Marble Falls Independent School District.
The Alvin ISD board of trustees approved the hiring of Roberts, the former MFISD assistant superintendent, on Jan. 20.
MFISD will begin looking for somebody to fill Roberts’ vacancy, but as for the position’s immediate duties, one person will shoulder those in the interim.
“I’m taking his duties,” MFISD Superintendent Rob O’Connor said. “Allen did a lot of instrumental things for our district. Allen took care of a lot of the different details.”
Roberts oversaw transportation, food service and maintenance, but his influence didn’t stop there.
After a hard freeze, Roberts was the one who drove the roads to determine if they were safe for travel. He coordinated game night crews, helped determine where clubs could set up concession stands for ball games and decided how press box rooms were utilized.
Roberts was instrumental in the drug-testing program and often met with parents and citizens regarding concerns about student life, O’Connor said.
From meeting with members of city hall for a fuel station to representing MFISD at community events, the superintendent said there is simply too many things Roberts took care of to list.
“There are things that don’t always fall cleanly under someone’s job description,” he said. “Allen would pick them up. I’m going to try to fill those shoes as best as possible.”
O’Connor said the job will be posted very soon, and the process of hiring someone will begin.
“I need somebody as soon as possible,” he said.
If people attended an event where they could enjoy themselves without worrying about lighting, safety and cleanliness, they can thank Roberts for that, O’Connor said.
“He did it seamlessly so no one knew what he did,” the superintendent said. “It’s a good indication that someone is taking care of their job duties.”
