BURNET — Burnet High School football players Kody Hall and Cameron Chafin signed letters of intent Feb. 4 on National Signing Day.

Hall, a linebacker, will play at Blinn College in Brenham, while Chafin, a defensive lineman, inked with Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.

Hall is a two-time district defensive most valuable player.

“Both young men have been tremendously successful for us,” Burnet head coach Kurt Jones said. “The hard work they put in is greatly appreciated. We’re proud of their accomplishments.”

Hall had a handful of offers to play for several Division II teams.

“I had my mind made up that I was going to go big or go home,” he said.

“Kody has been a great linebacker for us, one of the best to come here,” Jones said. “I think he feels like this is the pathway to open doors.”

Hall’s father, defensive coordinator Kevin Hall, was thrilled for his son for another reason.

“Somebody else is going to be feeding him,” he said with a grin.

“He’s always complaining about the food bill,” Kody Hall said. “Now he doesn’t have to keep food around the house constantly.”

Kody Hall, whose mother is Jodie Hall, will major in sports science to become a strength and conditioning coach.

The linebacker said playing for his dad was easier than many might think.

“He’s not a coach at home,” he said. “He doesn’t bring up football unless I bring it up first.”

Chafin already calls HSU home.

“I feel like it was the best option for me,” Chafin said. “I went there an fell in love with it.”

He will follow older brother, Dillon Chafin, a quarterback who played for the Bulldogs from 2007-2008.

“We haven’t really talked much about the campus, more about the football team,” Cameron Chafin said. “He told me good luck, and he wished the best for me.”

He learned several traits while playing for Burnet, he said. Among them are how to be a good leader and how to be a better teammate.

“We became close together as a team that Burnet hasn’t really had since (former standouts) Jordan (Shipley) and Stephen (McGee) were here,” he said.

Both Kevin Hall and Jones said the Bulldogs will miss the defensive end.

“Cameron is so coachable. He does everything we ask him to do,” Jones said.

The son of Randy and Teresa Chafin will major in kinesiology to become a coach.
