ORLANDO — Marble Falls High School senior offensive lineman and tight end Hanner Shipley has accepted an invitation to play in the Offense Defense All-American Bowl.
The game is 5 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando. Shipley will play for the West team.
“It feels great,” he said. “It’s a real honor. They chose me and one other tight end. It’s really a great honor to have been selected. I’m excited to showcase my abilities.”
At first, the Louisiana State University signee turned down the offer.
“The week I get back is when I move to LSU,” he said. “I didn’t think I would be able to get back and say goodbye to my family. My parents (Stephen and Ashley) wanted me to stay home as much as I could.”
LSU coaches changed his mind, he said, since other LSU signees also will play.
“They thought it would be a good opportunity to be teammates with them,” he said. “Coaches told me it would be a great memory maker. I decided I was going to do it.”
Cousins Jordan and Jaxon Shipley, receivers at the University of Texas, played in the Army All-American Game.
