Burnet football players pick up MVPs, all-district honors

BURNET — Several Burnet High School football players were chosen for all-District 13-4A Division I teams, and two received some of the highest honors by coaches.
Junior quarterback Austin Moore is the district’s Most Valuable Player, while senior linebacker Kody Hall is the district’s Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Hall won the same award in 2013.
“We are extremely proud of our young men and their accomplishments,” head coach Kurt Jones said. “This was a fantastic group of seniors, and we will miss them all tremendously.”

FIRST TEAM: Offense – receivers Cody Jones and Joel Johnson; linemen Aaron Cook, Jarrett Thornley, Christopher Saldivar and Jared McHazlett; utility player Steven Gallardo; kicker Alex Melvin; defense – punter Alex Melvin; linemen Cameron Chafin and Jarrett Thornley; linebacker Jake McElroy; safety Darius Johnson
SECOND TEAM: Offense – running back Brock Foster; fullback Eric Walker; lineman Christian Saldivar; returner Cory Cavender; defense – linebackers Trent Rockafellow and Cullen Ferrill
HONORABLE MENTION: Defense – ends Devontre Alexander and Travis Freeman; cornerback Wyatt Shepperd
RECORDS: In two seasons, the Bulldogs won 20 games and five playoff games.
