COTTONWOOD SHORES — In one of its out of this world productions — it’s set in Milwaukee — the Hill Country Community Theatre is holding open auditions 7 p.m. Dec. 8-9 for the upcoming production of “Zombies from the Beyond.”

“It’s definitely something different,” executive director Mike Rademaekers said. “What happens is this other planet, Planet X, all the men have disappeared, so Queen Zombina has come to Earth looking to kidnap all the men and take them back to her planet of women.”

For some reason, Queen Zombina’s spaceship lands in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, of all places. The U.S. government rallies to come up with a plan to stop the invasion, but the queen’s “secret weapon” might prove too much for the military.

HILL COUNTRY COMMUNITY THEATRE’S ‘A CHRISTMAS CAROL’ TAKES THE STAGE

So it’s up to a mild-mannered scientist, an all-American girl-next-door, a man-hungry secretary and a plucky, tap-dancing delivery boy to save the planet.

“It’s set in the 1950s,” Rademaekers said. And before anybody takes this as a serious drama, he added it’s really a play off the old sci-fi B movie.

And, it’s a musical.

Rehearsals for “Zombies from the Beyond” begin Dec. 15 with production dates Feb. 19-March 1.

The roles include:

  • Trenton Corbett, a 25- to 35-year-old all-American, heroic “Clark Kent” guy who sings baritone
  • Rick Jones, a 25- to 35-year-old shifty, high-ranking military officer, who is actually a Communist agent and sings tenor or baritone
  • Billy Kruzik, a 20- to 30-year-old charming, tap-dancing delivery boy who sings tenor or baritone
  • Mary Malone, a 25- to 45-year-old “perfect” 1950s woman, but with an edge and comedic timing, who also sings soprano
  • Charlene “Charlie” Osmanski, a 25- to 35-year-old wise-cracking, man-hungry secretary with lots of heart who sings soprano
  • Zombina (any age), a comic buxom alien on the prowl for human males and sings soprano

Anybody interested in these roles or with questions should call the theater at (830) 693-2474. Cranston Dodds is directing this production written by James Valcq.

The theater is located at 4003 FM 2147 West in Cottonwood Shores.
