Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department elects new chief

FROM STAFF REPORTS

COTTONWOOD SHORES — The Cottonwood Shores Volunteer Fire Department recently elected Travis Hockensmith as fire chief during a special meeting.

Former chief Heather Hyslop will remain a member of the department as a firefighter. She also remains a member of the Houston Fire Department. Hyslop was named as the department’s fire chief in January.

The election was during a special board meeting Oct. 21.

“The department will continue to utilize the training program that former Chief Hyslop has implemented among other changes she facilitated,” said board secretary Janet Taylor-Carusi in a statement. “(The department) has logged more than 1,000 hours of training last year, and we will continue to make training a priority.”

Mark Pederson was appointed assistant chief, and Adam Hernandez was promoted to captain.

Sheila Moore, the city administrator and secretary, said she looks forward to working with Hockensmith as the new chief.

“He’s a trained firefighter, and we wish him all the best,” she said.
