SPECIAL TO THE PICAYUNE

BURNET — Award-winning nature and Western photographer David K. Langford will speak about his latest book during a Coffee Talks program Nov. 13 at the Herman Brown Free Library.

The presentation is 2 p.m. at the library, 100 E. Washington St. Refreshments will be served at 1:30 p.m.

Langford will share his photographs from “Hillingdon Ranch: Four Seasons, Six Generations,” which tells the story of how one Hill Country family has persevered over six generations to keep their ranch intact and their land healthy. The book was co-written by Lorie Woodward Cantu and published by Texas A&M University Press.

Along with a photo presentation, Langford will explain how this cattle, sheep and goat ranch near Comfort has become a model of land stewardship.

Members of the Giles family, to which Langford belongs, have worked together to meet the challenges of shared ownership, new technology and the Texas drought. Langford and Cantu said they have great respect for the work the Giles and other ranchers do and hope to “inspire an appreciation of what their efforts mean to the rest of us.”

The free Coffee Talks series is the second Tuesday of the month. The December program features author John C. Kerr’s discussion about World War II espionage in the British Isles, about which his novel “Cardigan Bay” is written.
