Cottonwood Shores police chief resigns; list of candidates down to seven

HAROLD PIATT

FROM STAFF REPORTS

COTTONWOOD SHORES — After more than two years, Cottonwood Shores Police Chief Harold Piatt has resigned to focus more on his private security business.

Piatt, a former division commander with the Austin Police Department, was hired in July 2012 by Cottonwood Shores.

His resignation is effective Oct. 30.

In his time here, Piatt said he believes the department has grown into one that can better serve the city.

“I think we’ve done a good job of moving the department forward,” he said. “I would like to see the city grow and go ahead with the new council.”

Including Piatt, the city has three officers in the department. Piatt said the city has received about 40 applications, and that he has helped narrow down that list to seven. The final decision on the city’s new chief will be made by the city council.
