Burnet’s Texas Tea-Licious serves up murder mystery Oct. 25

BURNET — Often, when “mystery” and “dining” are mentioned in the same breath, the question likely revolves around a “mystery meat” or “What was that we just ate?”
Well, that’s not what you’ll be asking if you are dining at Texas Tea-Licious on Oct. 25, because the question then will more likely be “Who did it?”
The Burnet restaurant is hosting its second annual Murder Mystery Dinner from 6-8 p.m. This year, Texas Tea-Licious owners Trace and Liz Catlin have enlisted the help of the Capital City Mystery Players of Austin to pull off the murderous dining experience.
Liz Catlin started hosting murdery mysteries at her and Trace’s home when they lived in Houston. Last year, after buying the Burnet restaurant, Liz decided to add the murder mystery to the Texas Tea-Licious menu for the Halloween season.
“In the past, Liz wrote the scripts for the murder mysteries, but most of them were for really our private parties, and last year, when she wrote it for the restaurant, it really was too much to write it, so it also included people in the restaurant,” Trace said. “So we’re bringing in the Capital City Mystery Players this year.”
This year’s event is called “The Linguini Code,” which is a spoof of the popular novel “The DaVinci Code.” As the cast puts on the show, the diners can help solve the mystery as well as decipher a few word games and riddles as well.
“Like last year, it’s interactive,” Trace said. “Everybody will have a clue list to follow along with. And different people will be selected to stand up and read off a clue or shout one out.”
When the Catlins introduced the first murder mystery dinner theater last year at Texas Tea-Licious, they weren’t exactly sure what to expect. But from the feedback, Trace said it was well received and enjoyed.
“It was extremely fun and went really well,” he said. “Everybody had a good time.”
Tickets for the event are $30, which includes a dinner of your choice among avocado grilled chicken, chipotle raspberry T-bone pork chop or hand-cut 10-ounce ribeye (no “mystery meat” here.) There also will be a costume contest and door prizes.
“Reservations are required,” Trace added. “And tickets are going fast.”
