MARBLE FALLS — The Battle of Burnet County on Aug. 29 between the visiting Burnet Bulldogs and the Marble Falls Mustangs will open the 2014 high school football season and bring out fans of both teams in droves.
Which means finding a parking spot at Mustang Stadium turns into a game of its own.
The annual rivalry game draws so many fans that officials have been planning for weeks for the increased traffic on U.S. 281 and RR 1431, said Marble Falls Independent School District Assistant Superintendent Allen Roberts.
Mustangs fans are to park in the home lot at Marble Falls High School at the end of Mustang Drive, while Bulldogs fans should go to the visitor’s parking lot off Manzano Mile.
Marble Falls fans needing handicap parking should drive to the lot located behind the high school band hall close to the home entrance. There’s also handicap parking spots at the visitor’s lot.
And once parking spaces fill up, fans can go to two other places to park: Colt Elementary School, 2200 Manzano Mile, and Fellowship Baptist Church, 2702 Morman Mill Road. Fans will be shuttled to the stadium and back to the lots during and after the game. Shuttle service begins at 6 p.m.
“We’re anticipating a large crowd,” Roberts said. “Burnet is supposed to have a good team. We’ve done a lot of good things. We have enough parking fill the seats at our stadium.”
Mustang Stadium seats more than 5,000.
In addition, Marble Falls police officers will be directing traffic, and members of the MFISD maintenance department will be helping fans find their seats.
Roberts said Marble Falls will have additional ticket booth workers with the aim of quickly getting fans into the stadium.
Above all, MFISD officials want fans to enjoy the action on the field, the reason why so many will be in the city.
“We’re taking precautions to make it as comfortable as possible,” he said. “We’ve added additional police officers and staff to accommodate a huge crowd.”
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Mustang Stadium is located at 2101 Mustang Drive.
