BURNET — When Kyle Park takes the stage during the Burnet Summer Concert Series on Aug. 9, the Texas singer-songwriter wants each song to add something to the show, not mimic the piece before it.

“I hate to go to a show and the first song sounds like the other songs, and the show just keeps going and seems to flatline,” he said in his website bio. “It’s cool to have different styles of songs.”

Park is a self-made musician who has pretty much tackled the country music world on his own terms. On his latest album, “Beggin’ For More,” Park isn’t just the artist but also the boss. That allows him to explore his creativity without worrying if someone in a far-off corporate office will shoot down his idea for a more homogenous country sound.

With eight years of writing, recording, singing and performing under his belt, one of Park’s greatest attributes remains his desire to keep learning. During his solid touring schedule over the years, Park has performed with Gary Allan, Jack Ingram and the Eli Young Band. Each time he’s shared the stage with musicians of that level, Park worked to learn more and apply that to his own career.

For Park, music is more than something he performs, it’s an outlet that allows him to express himself and deal with life’s sorrows and joys. At 12, Park lost his father and turned to the guitar. He found a purpose in the instrument.

He first focused on a hard-rock sound but soon found himself pursuing the styles of George Strait, Waylon Jennings and Keith Whitley — the type of music his father listened to on the radio.

With four albums, Park spends a great deal of time on the road. But it’s paid off as his career continues to grow along with the crowds.

Tickets are $10 for Park’s show at Haley Nelson Park, 301 Garden Trails off Texas 29. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. Lawn chairs and coolers are permitted.

This is the fourth installment of the Burnet Summer Concert Series sponsored by the city of Burnet, KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune and Double Eagle Entertainment.

The last concert of the season is Sept. 6 featuring Aaron Watson.
